Alliance Taskforces The Fenceline Taskforce The Fenceline Taskforce of the Alliance brings together community groups who live on the “fenceline” of polluted sites — either from currently active industry or from contamination that is the legacy of former industrial operations. In the passed year taskforce members have weighed in on the N.Y.S. Department of Environmental Conservation’s proposed Brownfield and Superfund Cleanup regulations and participated in the 2006 Environmental Justice for All Tour. Fenceline Taskforce members are affected by the whole lifecycle of pollution — manufacture, use and disposal. The Fenceline taskforce is especially concerned about the impact that our chemically-dependent industrial society has on people who work next to facilities and children who live and play near them. When it comes to reforming chemicals policy, taskforce members focus on ensuring that immediate action is taken to protect those who are now paying the price of health-damaging policy and market decisions, and current contamination of people’s homes and bodies. If we must, we will force local business’s and government officials to create a safer environment and think twice before choosing finances over people’s health, safety, and quality of life. Also, community residents, especially the vulnerable youth, need to be educated on how chemicals dumped in our environment can harm them, now or in ten to forty years, in the form of diseases. Increased education will lead to prevention and wisdom which will lead all our neighborhoods to a Toxic Free Future. For additional information contact: (email), Cheektowaga Citizen’s Coalition (web)
