Precautionary Taskforce
The Precautionary Taskforce works to promote the precautionary principle in government practices. This principle is reflected in bullet #4 of the Safer Chemicals Charter; Act on Early Warnings. The taskforce focuses on:
Precautionary Policy: Requiring government to consider credible evidence of harm, rather than risk assessment, in its decision-making processes.
Safe and Sustainable Procurement: Shifting the purchasing power of government institutions to environmentally healthy products, commodities and services, thereby achieving the economy of scale necessary to render these products more affordable and readily available to everyone.
Environmental Health Tracking: Conducting research with a goal of linking diseases of environmental origin such as breast cancer to point sources of toxic chemical pollution.
The Precautionary Taskforce also supports the overall Alliance agenda, such as implementing a Green Chemistry Institute and a Toxic Use Reduction Institute here in New York State. All are welcome to join our taskforce and work collectively with us on these goals. After all, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
