Safe and Sustainable Procurement

To help foster the development and implementation of safer alternative products and chemicals, New York State should to adopt a safe and sustainable procurement policy. This would require the state to take environmental and public health into consideration when making purchases. By using the procurement budget for safer products, the state will be improving the environmental health of its citizens as well helping to create a market shift that will increase demand for safer products. This will also work to promote research and development of more alternative chemicals. The Safe and Sustainable Procurement Act (bill # A. 7257, S. 4544) outlines the key elements of such a program.
